| This was a Tory seat for 60 years before it was won by Angela Eagle in 1992 (she is the twin sister of Maria Eagle, MP for Liverpool Garston, and a Junior Minister of Social Security). She boosted her majority from 3800 to 19074 last time and her seat is safe as houses. Nevertheless expect a big local Tory effort - the local Tory association is said to be rolling in money, and parts of the constituency resent Labour-run Wirral Council for putting resources into neighbouring Birkenhead. |
