A true Labour stronghold. In 1983 this was the only one of the three seats in Leicester to stick with Labour. Patricia Hewitt, its MP since 1997, seems set to be one of the high flyers in the Labour Government during the next few years. She manages to combine a very sharp intellect and political nous (the two aren't often found together!)and is one of the very few Labour MPs with any kind of background in business (she was something important in Andersen Consulting for a few years). Hewitt could well be the first female Chancellor of the Exchequer in years to come.
