| The seat based on the west midlands town of Cannock gave Labour nasty shocks in 1970, 1983 and 1987 but returned to the fold in 1992 and gave Tony Wright a big majority in 1997. Cannock will be Labour now in all but the very best Tory years, and 2001 isn't shaping up to be one of those. |
