| Widespread (though unproven) allegations of corruption within the local Labour Party and a variety of independent candidates splitting the tradional Asian Labour vote could spell trouble for Piara Khabra, the aged and unimpressive incumbent. The impressively multi-lingual Lib Dem challenger Baldev Sharmer is well-placed to pick up many disillusioned Labour votes. |

| With a 21,000 majority Labour is safe here. However the really important issue in Southall is will the already "Yoda" like Piara Khabra go on forever. Apparently, when elected in 1992 it was thought that he would only serve for one term, yet he is now nearly 77 and standing again. I have a strange feeling that in 50 years time Mr khabra will be the first MP to be re-elected at the age of 127. |
