| Croydon North is an ethnically mixed half-way out London suburb of the sort which has been trending to Labour for 20-30 years and it had an enormous swing in 1997 which removed it from marginal status. Once upon a time the Liberals held it (1981-83) after a by-election but their support has dissipated and they have no councillors. Labour held Croydon council well in 1998. |
